We could say Terry Masear is a bird whisperer—she certainly has a gift of understanding hummingbirds. For years, she has been dedicated to saving injured hummingbirds that are brought to her Los Angeles home in small, bird-friendly containers. Every year, she whispers to hundreds of them, helping them heal—a reflection of her own life, which has been a journey of love and care during which she has suffered many injuries of her own. This sensitive and moving film by Australian director Sally Aitken brings us closer to Masear’s deep and honest care for Cactus, Wasabi and other hummingbirds, leaving viewers with the feeling that love and care can get us through. Inspired by Masear’s 2015 book Fastest Things on Wings: Rescuing Hummingbirds in Hollywood, this delicately crafted film features stunning cinematography and leads us to believe there is hope in every hummingbird that flies back into the sky.
